Meteor Escape

Fly freely around a tall screen while a meteor storm builds around you. Meteors rain from above, later streak in from the sides, and big ones are announced by a flashing warning marker.

How to Play

  1. Press Start Game. Your ship starts near the bottom of the screen and can fly anywhere on it.
  2. Meteors fall from the top. Weave between them; the fiery tail behind each one shows which way it is heading.
  3. When a yellow triangle with an ! appears on the edge of the screen, a large meteor will enter there in about a second. The dashed line shows its path and the shrinking ring shows the time left. Get off that line.
  4. From storm level 3, meteors also fly in from the left and right edges, so keep an eye on the sides.
  5. Collect the hexagonal S capsule to turn on a Shield. It absorbs one meteor hit and then switches off.
  6. One hit without a shield ends the run.

Objective

Survive as long as possible. Points come from time in the storm, plus a bonus each time the storm level rises. There is no end point: the storm keeps intensifying until a meteor catches you.

Difficulty progression

The storm level (shown as Level in the HUD) rises every 15 seconds. Each level makes meteors fall faster and spawn more often, up to a cap. Large meteors with warning markers begin at storm level 2 and arrive more frequently as the level climbs; they are aimed roughly at your current position. From storm level 3, a growing share of meteors, including some large ones, enters from the left and right edges instead of the top.

Tips

  • Stay in the lower middle of the screen. It gives you the most time to react to falling meteors and room to move in any direction.
  • When a warning marker appears, move sideways across the dashed line instead of along it. Large meteors are wide, and moving across their path clears it fastest.
  • Large meteors are aimed at where you are when the warning appears, so a small, early move is usually enough.
  • Once side meteors start at storm level 3, avoid hugging the left or right edge; a meteor can enter right next to you with almost no warning.
  • Take the shield whenever it is reasonably safe to reach. It falls slowly from the top, so wait for it to come down to you rather than flying into the densest part of the storm.
  • Diagonal movement is not faster than straight movement, so plan your escape routes by distance, not by direction.

About Meteor Escape

Meteor Escape is a pure survival game: there are no weapons and no enemies, only the storm. Unlike games where you slide along one line, you can fly anywhere on the screen, which makes positioning the main skill. The best players spend most of their time in a calm spot and move early and briefly when something is coming.

The storm has three layers. Small and medium meteors fall from the top from the very start. From storm level 2, large meteors are announced by a flashing triangle marker with a dashed path line, so they are fair but demand a decisive move. From storm level 3, meteors also cross in from the sides. A shield capsule appears from time to time and lets you survive one mistake. Your personal best is saved locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when a big meteor is coming in Meteor Escape?

A yellow triangle with an exclamation mark appears on the edge of the screen where the meteor will enter, together with a dashed line along its path and a ring that shrinks as time runs out. The meteor arrives about 1.3 seconds later.

How often does the Shield appear?

When you do not already have a shield, a shield capsule starts falling from the top roughly every 12 to 22 seconds. It disappears after about 12 seconds if you do not collect it.

How many hits can I take?

One. A meteor hit ends the run unless your Shield is on. The shield absorbs a single hit and then switches off, with a very short moment of protection so you can get clear.

When do meteors start coming from the sides?

From storm level 3, which begins after 30 seconds. The share of side meteors grows with each level after that.

Is my best score saved?

Yes. Your personal best is stored in your browser's local storage on this device. It is not uploaded anywhere and there is no online leaderboard.
