How to Play

  1. Press Start Game. The start panel and the top of the game show today's challenge number and date.
  2. The course scrolls toward you for 60 seconds and speeds up slightly as it goes. Steer your rocket anywhere in the lower two-thirds of the screen.
  3. Fly between the two posts of a GATE for a bonus, and touch stars to collect them.
  4. Avoid asteroids. Each hit costs one of your 3 hull points and gives a brief moment of invulnerability.
  5. The run ends when the 60-second timer finishes or your hull reaches 0. Replay as often as you like to improve today's best, then use Share to post your result.

Objective

Score as many points as possible on today's course. Everyone gets the same layout on the same UTC day, so you can compare results with friends by sharing them.

Difficulty progression

Within each day's course, difficulty rises with distance: the scroll speed increases steadily over the 60 seconds, asteroid fields get denser with bigger and more often drifting rocks, gates get narrower, and asteroid walls with a single gap appear after the opening section. The first sections are always a line of stars and an easy gate.

Scoring

ActionPoints
Distance1 point per meter flown
Star+25
Gate+100 when you pass between its posts
Asteroid hitNo points lost, but it costs 1 of 3 hull points

Tips

  • Replay the same day's course. The layout never changes during the day, so you can learn where the walls and gates are.
  • Sit in the lower middle of the screen. It gives you the most time to react and room to move to either side.
  • Asteroid walls always have one gap with a star inside it. Look for that star early and move toward it.
  • A gate is worth four stars. If a gate and a star are on opposite sides, take the gate.
  • Hull points only matter until the timer ends, so on your last few seconds you can take a small risk for a gate.
  • On touch screens, dragging keeps your finger off the rocket: it aims slightly above your fingertip.

About Daily Space Challenge

Daily Space Challenge is a short, fixed-length flight course that changes once per day. The layout is built from the current UTC date, so every player who opens the game on the same day flies exactly the same sequence of gates, star lines, asteroid fields and asteroid walls. Only cosmetic effects such as sparks and the background stars vary between runs.

Because the course is fixed for the day, the game rewards memory as well as reflexes. Your first run is a reading exercise; later runs are about choosing better lines through the gates and walls. Your best score for each day is saved locally in your browser, and the Share button uses your device's share feature or copies your result so you can compare scores with friends. There are no online leaderboards.

Categories: Space Flying Games, Asteroid Games, Rocket Games. Daily Space Challenge is an original game made for Space Arcade Games. Its gameplay is arcade-style and fictional, not a scientific simulation (see our disclaimer).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does everyone get the same course?

Yes. The course is generated from the current date in UTC, so everyone playing on the same UTC day gets the same layout. A new course starts at midnight UTC.

Can I play today's challenge more than once?

Yes. You can replay as often as you like. Your best score for each date is saved in your browser, and the challenge number and date are shown at the top of the game.

What ends a run?

A run ends when the 60-second timer finishes, which shows a Time! screen, or when asteroids have used up all 3 hull points.

Is there a global leaderboard?

No. Scores are saved only in your browser's local storage on this device. The Share button lets you send your result to friends yourself.

Do gates count if I fly around them?

No. You earn the 100-point gate bonus only by passing between the two posts. A missed gate simply gives no bonus.
