How to Play

  1. Press Start Game. Four stars are always on screen; fly into one to collect it and another appears elsewhere.
  2. Collect stars within 2 seconds of each other to keep your combo going. The bar at the top shows how much time is left.
  3. Every 3 stars in a row raise the multiplier by one, up to x8. Each star is worth 10 points times the multiplier.
  4. Avoid space mines and comets. New mines fade in and are harmless until they turn solid; comets are announced by an orange ! marker at the edge they will enter from.
  5. A hit costs one of 3 lives and ends your combo. Your ship blinks for 2 seconds afterward and cannot be hit again during that time.

Objective

Score as many points as possible before your 3 lives run out. Long combos multiply every star, so keeping the chain alive matters more than collecting the most stars.

Difficulty progression

The level rises every 20 seconds. Each level allows one more mine on screen (up to 9) and spawns them more often, mines drift a little faster, and comets appear more often and fly faster, with the comet speed capped at around level 11 and the spawn rate at around level 10.

Tips

  • Plan a route through the stars before the combo bar runs low. Heading for the nearest star is usually right, but not if a mine sits between you.
  • A combo of x3 or more is worth protecting. When the bar is nearly empty, go for the closest star even if it is not on your ideal route.
  • When an orange ! marker appears, note which edge it is on and move out of that line early. Comets travel in a straight line across the whole screen.
  • Faded mines are still arming. Treat them as solid anyway, because they turn dangerous within a second or so.
  • Stay away from the edges when mines are bouncing around; corners leave you with fewer ways out.
  • Dragging on the game is precise on touch screens. Keep your finger slightly ahead of the ship so it does not cover the action.

About Star Collector

Star Collector is the most relaxed game on Space Arcade Games at first, and it is the best one for learning how combo multipliers change your priorities. Early on, the screen is almost empty and you can chain stars freely. As mines and comets fill the space, every route becomes a trade-off between keeping the chain alive and staying safe.

The combo system is simple and always visible: the bar at the top of the game and the Combo value in the HUD show your multiplier and how long you have to grab the next star. Getting hit ends the combo as well as costing a life, so a careful player with long chains usually beats a fast player who takes risks. Your best score is saved locally in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the combo multiplier work?

Each star you collect within 2 seconds of the previous one extends the combo. The multiplier starts at x1 and rises by one for every 3 stars in the chain, up to x8. If the timer bar empties, the combo resets to x1.

What ends a combo besides the timer?

Getting hit by a mine or a comet. It costs one life and resets the multiplier to x1.

Can I touch a mine that is still fading in?

Newly spawned mines are harmless while they are faded, and mines about to disappear stop being dangerous as they fade out. Solid mines always count as a hit.

How do I know where a comet will come from?

An orange circle with an exclamation mark appears at the edge where the comet will enter, just under a second before it arrives.

Is my best score saved?

Yes. Your personal best is saved in your browser's local storage on this device. It is not uploaded anywhere and there is no online leaderboard.
